What are Park Model Homes?

Park model homes are one of the strongest segments of the recreational vehicle industry and for good reason. A park model RV has the appearance and amenities of a vacation cottage or cabin, allowing families to spend their vacation time living with more than just a touch of luxury. A far cry from the inconveniences of camping in a tent or even a conventional RV, a park model provides all the comforts of home in a beautifully appointed compact residence. Manufactured to the highest standards, park models are rapidly becoming the choice of discriminating buyers looking for the ultimate in a seasonal or recreational home.

Flexibility is one of the highlights of a park model RV. While designed for long-term campground or recreational use, they are still mobile and can be moved to a new site when desired. Floor plans and styles have an amazing diversity, assuring that there is the ideal park trailer model for even the most specific requirements. Styles include the park model RV series resembling beautifully rustic log cabins to elegant contemporary models rivaling the finest site-built homes. There are floor plans to suit every family’s needs. Whether seeking a hunting or fishing lodge that sleeps a large group or a retirement home for a couple, the ideal floor plan is readily found. Many of the homes have an abundance of upgrades and options for ease of customization. Adding additional windows, lofts or a porch are just a few of the available options, easily making one of these homes the getaway home of your dreams.

Although originally designed as a luxurious alternative to traditional RV camping accommodations, park models are gaining popularity as retirement homes. Their appeal centers on their ability to provide a standard of living that exceeds most conventional RVs and their charming appearance. From the exterior, park models resemble site-built homes, blending beautifully with forest, desert, alpine or any natural environment. The interiors boast features and design elements commonly found only in site-built homes. Many of these compact homes are appointed with hardwood cabinetry, quality floor coverings, full-sized appliances and large bathrooms. Vaulted ceilings, expansive windows and even lofts are just a few of the special features available in these space-saving homes. They offer one of the most affordable options for either a quality vacation home or permanent dwelling. Retirees are discovering the advantages of park trailers, with some purchasing one home for winters in a southern resort and another for summers in a northern climate.

Park model RVs have a maximum size of 400 square feet when set up, not including the extra area in loft models. Due to their size and mobility, they qualify as recreational vehicles for purposes of taxation, a further advantage over site-built vacation homes or larger mobile homes. Park model homes are manufactured in the same facilities that produce conventional trailers, using many of the same design elements and construction methods. Most of these small homes have amenities found only in higher quality manufactured homes. Their beautiful sense of style, their compact size and their qualification as recreation vehicles are spurring the popularity of these upscale homes both on the campgrounds and in other settings.

Each park model home we carry is built to meet or exceed the exacting safety standards set forth by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) in their 30-page document ANSI – A119.5 Standard for Park Trailers. More than 500 specific standards cover everything from heating and air conditioning to electrical and plumbing systems. Construction standards are applicable to the wider models that are designed for long-term site use rather than frequent travel. These standards cover load requirements for the roof and floors. Structural materials, fastening devises and anchorage are also covered under this section of the standards. Look for the Recreational Park Trailer Industry Association (RPTIA) inspection seal on park models, assuring customers the ANSI standards have been met or exceeded.
